The Historic Ford House has Opened its New Visitor Center This Month!

After a major construction process, the historic Ford House opened its new visitor center to the public this month!

The new visitor center is on the grounds of the historic Edsel and Eleanor Clay Ford estate in Grosse Pointe Shores and marks the first major alteration to the estate in 25 years.

It’s also the largest new construction project on the grounds since the home was built in 1928.

The Ford House Visitor’s Center

The 40,000-square-foot visitor center was designed by renowned architect Albert Kahn and is a National Historic Landmark. It features two stories and an exhibition and audio-visual experience dubbed The Ford Family Story. There is also a space for traveling and rotating exhibitions – which will kick off with Driven by Design, an exhibit featuring three rare vehicles. The rare vehicles include the world’s only 1939 Lincoln Continental prototype, the 1932 Ford Model 18 Speedster and 1934 Ford Model 40 Special Speedster. The exhibition tells the story of Edsel Ford’s role in bringing elegant design to Ford Motor Company.
